An Urgent Need For Children

If you are a parent or grandparent, you know just how quickly your children grow up. Perhaps they are already off to college, or maybe you are just amazed that you are buying school supplies for a middle-schooler. You also likely know that the opportunities and challenges a child faces at 8, 9 or 10 years old can imprint a life for many years to come.

Here at Mika, I know many such children who are entering this critical phase. As such, I am writing to share with you an urgent funding request.

We need to raise $30,000 before our fall program begins on September 18th in order to fully staff and equip our youth programs. These funds will allow us to maintain our two program locations for our after-school program and keep all of our youth programs fully functioning for the fall.

The biggest need is to hire a Site Coordinator for our Center St. after-school program. These students attend Whittier Elementary where 82% of the students are English Language Learners and only 28% are performing to standard by the 6th grade in English Language Arts. If we cannot find the funding for this site location, the consequences are significant. A lifetime of learning and success potentially hangs in the balance for some of these children.

By giving generously you can help ensure we can equip these students with all they need to not only complete their homework, but to improve their literacy, comprehension, and develop into the leaders that they were created to be. The impact of this program is difficult to overstate: despite the odds being stacked against them, all of our high school graduates who have gone on to attend four year universities started in our after-school program.

We are inviting you, our community of supporters, to stand alongside us. Would you consider partnering with us in this urgent need and help shapes lives for years to come?  In order to move forward with confidence, I really need your response by August 31st.

It's a privilege for me to advocate on behalf of our community and I'm so grateful that Mika has a community of supporters to reach out to in times of need. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to me directly.
