youth development

Mika CDC's Youth Development Programs seek to develop the youth of Costa Mesa into leaders of purpose through holistic programming and mentoring relationships. This is accomplished by building relationships through our youth programs which are Express Yourself, Niño's del Rey, Hope Center Tutoring, Christian Surfers Outreach and Job Club. Ultimately, our goal is to support and develop young leaders into neighbors who will lead their neighborhood to become a Community of VISION.

Express Yourself Art Program

Express Yourself Arts program is designed to promote creativity and self-expression through the arts, to discover and develop skills in the arts, to foster confidence and new vision of the future, to encourage leadership and develop a sense of community, and to foster interdependent relationships with God. This is accomplished during two twelve week sessions and one five weeks session of art and leadership development classes. Our goal is for Express Yourself to become a true expression of the hearts of the Communities of VISION from whom its participants come.

Job Club

Job Club is designed to inspire youth to pursue a job that they love, to teach them the skills necessary to keep that job, and to teach them to spend their earnings wisely. Using a combination of the Job Club and Junior Achievement curriculums, this 5 to 6 week summer program trains participants in job skills while giving them real work experience by partnering with local businesses. Our goal is to equip 12 and 13 year olds with the skills they need to obtain and keep a job when they are of working age.

Job Club Business Partners include:

Niños del Rey

Niño's del Rey is designed to introduce children to the Lord at a young age, giving them a foundation of Biblical truths on which to build their lives. This is accomplished each week as church partners, youth volunteers and community leaders lead students in a Bible lesson, worship music, games and a snack. Our goal is to ultimately connect Niño's del Rey participants to our other youth development programs to raise them up into leaders of purpose. Niños del Rey currently takes place in the Maple and Shalimar neighborhoods.
