youth development

Mika CDC's Youth Development Programs seek to develop the youth of Costa Mesa into leaders of purpose through holistic programming and mentoring relationships. This is accomplished by building relationships through our youth programs which are Express Yourself, Hope Center Tutoring, Christian Surfers Outreach and Job Club. Ultimately, our goal is to support and develop young leaders into neighbors who will lead their neighborhood to become a Community of VISION.

Step Up

Step up intensifies Mika's focus on equipping leaders to build communities with VISION. Our redesigned youth format give students an increased opportunity to grow in community with one another and key adult role models. Along with discipleship and academics, we are focusing on 4 key enrichment areas: art, health, financial literacy, and leadership development.

Hope Community Center - Step Up

The Hope Community Center was established by Manos a la Obra, Center St.'s Neighborhood Action Committee. Students from kindergarten through high school can participate in Step Up after school Mondays-Thursdays.

Maple Learning Center - Step Up

The Maple Learning Center was established by The Crossing Church in 2000. In the Fall of 2008, Mika and Maple's Neighborhood Action Committee assumed the responsibility of the Learning Center. The long tradition of academic excellence in Maple has continued through Step Up after school Mondays - Thursdays.

Mentoring

Studies show that the most effective way to make a positive influence in someone's life is through one-on-one mentoring. Mika affirms this through matching positive adult role models with students in elementary through high school through our mentoring program. Mentors are asked to make a minimum of 1 year commitment and spend regular time building a lasting relationship with students from Mika's target neighborhoods.

Job Club

Job Club is designed to inspire youth to pursue a job that they love, to teach them the skills necessary to keep that job, and to teach them to spend their earnings wisely. This 5 to 6 week summer program trains participants in job skills while giving them real work experience by partnering with local businesses. Our goal is to equip Jr. High and High School students with the skills they need to obtain and keep a job when they are of working age.
